HC grants interim protection to Aroop Biswas in 'attempt to murder' case
Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari met the family of the youth killed in mob lynching in Baruipur on Tuesday and assured them of full justice. The deceased, identified as Indrajit Mondol, was allegedly lynched by a mob on Sunday morning over suspicions of involvement in a crime. Adhikari, who also holds the Police Minister portfolio, stated that the victim was innocent and directed strict action against those responsible for the lynching. He emphasised that the culprits would be booked under murder charges.
Speaking after the meeting, the Chief Minister said the person killed in the mob lynching was an unmarried young man and that those involved in his death would face severe consequences. He reiterated that no one would be spared and warned of strict action against anyone who damaged government property or created unrest following the incident. Adhikari had earlier assured that the government would do everything possible as per the family’s demands.
The mob lynching occurred after locals, angered by the primary crime, targeted Indrajit Mondol, an auto-driver. His mother, Anima Mondol, claimed her son was innocent and had returned home early on Saturday evening. She alleged a large mob dragged him out and beat him to death without allowing him to speak. The Chief Minister’s visit to the family aimed to calm tensions and reinforce the administration’s commitment to rule of law. This comes to a time when there has been heavy police deployment in Baruipur to maintain order. He instructed the Special Task Force and police to ensure thorough investigation and accountability for the lynching, separate from the main case.
